My name is Beverley McWilliams, and I am an award-winning children's writer based in South Australia. I love to write across the genres and have a passion for stories based on non-fiction and animals. I have published two historical middle-grade novels with Pantera Press: 'The Reindeer and the Submarine' (2022) and 'Spies in the Sky' (2023). Spies in the Sky won The ARA Historical Novel Prize 2024, was shortlisted for The Readings Prize and longlisted for the Booklinks Award for Historical Fiction. I have published two picture books with MidnightSun, 'Willow's Gumboots' (Oct 24) illustrated by Helene Magisson and 'Born to Fly' (2019) illustrated by Timothy Ide. Both are Children’s Book Council of Australia notable books. My non-fiction picture book 'Cassowary Dad' was recently released with CSIRO Publishing. My non-fiction writing has also been published online and in magazines, and I am a regular contributor to The School Magazine, Australia’s longest-running literary publication for children.
I am a member of The Australian Society of Authors (ASA). I am also Co-regional coordinator for The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators SA branch (SCBWI).
